The word "Akshay" means ‘the never diminishing’. It represents eternal prosperity for any new beginning made or valuables bought or remedial measures initiated on this day. According to the Vedas, Rishi Vyasa along with Lord Ganesha embarked on the process of writing the epic Mahabharata on this day to perpetuate its glory among mankind forever.
